A free HEIC to JPG converter, in the browser
This page is a free HEIC to JPG converter. Convert HEIC to JPG by dropping an iPhone photo on the well above; the tab writes a .jpg on this device. There is no account, no watermark, and no cloud inbox.
Search results often call this a HEIC to JPG online tool. The page is online. The photo is not uploaded. JavaScript reads the file in this browser, Web Workers decode the still, and canvas encodes JPEG or PNG. Open DevTools → Network while you convert if you want proof: you will see the page’s own scripts, not the image bytes posted to a server.
Windows File Explorer, mail clients, school and government forms, Slack on desktop, and a long tail of CMS fields were built around JPEG, PNG, and GIF. They do not know image/heic. They reject the file or show a blank thumbnail. Convert from HEIC to JPG when that is the gap. Keep the HEIC in Photos as the original; the JPG is the copy you send out. The dropzone accepts .heic and .heif stills, and WebP. Live Photo video is not included — still frame only.
HEIC, HEIF, JPG, and JPEG
HEIC is the filename you see on photos from a recent iPhone or iPad. Under the hood the file is a HEIF container with a still compressed using HEVC. Apple switched the Camera app to this format in iOS 11 because a typical shot is about half the size of a JPEG at similar visual quality. Useful on a phone; a problem the moment the photo has to live somewhere else.
HEIF is the ISO container name. HEIC is the usual Apple-branded payload (HEVC inside HEIF). You may also see .heif from other cameras. This converter is a HEIF to JPG converter as well as a HEIC to JPG converter: it sniffs the ftyp brand rather than trusting the extension alone. Convert HEIF to JPG, convert HEIF to JPEG, or convert HEIC to JPEG — same decoder, same .jpg filename. HEIC HEIF to JPG is one job on this page.
JPG and JPEG are the same format. JPEG is the codec; JPG is the three-letter extension from older Windows systems. IMG_1234.jpg and IMG_1234.jpeg are the same kind of file. A HEIC to JPEG converter here still writes .jpg so older upload scripts that whitelist three letters do not bounce the file. Quality is not tied to the letters in the name; it is tied to the slider (default 0.92).

How to convert HEIC to JPG
How to convert HEIC to JPG with the tool on this page:
- Open this page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- Drop
.heicor.heiffiles on the well, click to choose, or paste. You can add a batch (up to 50 files). - Leave output on JPG. Switch to PNG only if you need a lossless still.
- Leave JPEG quality at 0.92 unless you need a smaller attachment.
- Download each file, or download a ZIP of the batch.
How to change HEIC to JPG is the same action: change HEIC to JPG means re-encoding, not renaming. Turning .heic to JPG by editing the extension leaves HEIF bytes; uploaders that only look at the name may accept it and then fail in a thumbnail worker. Converting HEIC to JPG writes a real JPEG marker. How to convert HEIC to JPEG, how to convert HEIF to JPG, and how to change HEIF to JPG use these same steps. Filenames stay stable: IMG_1234.heic becomes IMG_1234.jpg.
How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows, Mac, and iPhone
How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows
Copy the photos to the PC first (USB, iCloud for Windows, or a shared folder). Open this page in Edge or Chrome, drop the files, and download JPG or a ZIP. You do not need the Microsoft Store HEIF/HEVC extensions for this conversion. Those codecs help Explorer thumbnails; they do not make every web form accept HEIC. How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows covers the codec pack if you also want Explorer previews.
How to convert HEIC to JPG on Mac
Preview and Photos can already export JPEG. Use this converter when you want a batch ZIP, a quality slider that matches the Windows workflow, or you are already in a browser. Safari can often decode HEIC natively, so the WASM decoder may never load. How to convert HEIC to JPG on Mac.
How to convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone
HEIC to JPG on iPhone is often the Share sheet: Mail and many apps receive a JPEG when the other side cannot use HEIC. For a real .jpg in Files, or a batch, open this site in Safari and pick the photos. Convert HEIF to JPG on iPhone the same way if the file uses the generic .heif extension. HEIF to JPG without losing quality
JPEG is lossy. HEIF to JPG without losing quality, in the archival sense, is not what JPEG does: you are encoding a new lossy file. Keep the original HEIC, use the default quality 0.92, or choose PNG for a lossless still (much larger — you unpacked HEVC into a bitmap). Default 0.92 is meant for email, forms, and most prints. Drop it if you need smaller attachments. Conversion is a compatibility step, not an upgrade.
A HEIF to JPG converter free of accounts and uploads is this same dropzone. Convert HEIF to JPEG here when a form asked for JPEG and you have a .heif. If the file is already WebP from a website, use Convert WebP to JPG instead.
How conversion runs, and the limits
Nothing in this pipeline posts your photo to a server. When you add a file, a Preact island starts a pool of Web Workers — at most four, or fewer if the machine has fewer cores. Each worker either asks the browser to decode the still (Safari can often decode HEIC natively) or loads a WebAssembly build of libheif. Decode happens off the main thread. The still is optionally resized to a maximum edge you choose, then drawn to an OffscreenCanvas and encoded as JPEG or PNG. WASM loads on the first file, not on first paint. EXIF and GPS are stripped by default; check “Keep camera metadata” to copy the EXIF block into the JPEG.
Caps exist so a 48‑megapixel burst does not freeze a phone: 50 files per batch, 25 MB per file, 200 MB total, 40 megapixels per image. If a file is too large, too many pixels, or not a still HEIC/HEIF, that row fails and the rest of the batch continues. Batch ZIP uses STORE so the JPEGs are not compressed a second time. There is no “AI enhance.” JPEG encoding is the ordinary canvas encoder in your browser.
If a conversion fails, read the row status. Unsupported means the bytes are not a still we can decode. Out of memory means the image is too heavy for this tab. Partial fail means some files worked; download those and retry the rest. Keep HEIC as the archive. Convert HEIC to JPG when the destination cannot open HEIC. The converter needs JavaScript. The article you are reading does not.
